Honeymoon packing guide
The Ultimate Honeymoon Packing List
A calm, category-by-category checklist so nothing important gets left behind — with separate sections for beach, city and adventure honeymoons. Start with the essentials, then jump to the destination that matches your trip.
The essentials — for every honeymoon
Pack these first, no matter where you're going. Losing any of them mid-trip is the fastest way to derail a romantic week.
- Passports (check the expiry — many countries need 6+ months left)
- Printed and digital copies of every booking (flights, hotels, tours)
- Marriage certificate or name-change proof (needed for some reservations)
- Travel insurance policy number and 24-hour helpline
- Two payment methods — a card and some local currency in cash
- Universal power adapter and a small multi-port USB charger
- Prescription medicine in original packaging + a copy of the prescription
- Refillable water bottle and a slim reusable tote for day trips
- Basic first-aid: painkillers, antihistamines, plasters, motion-sickness tabs
- Sunscreen (SPF 50+), lip balm with SPF, after-sun
Beach honeymoon
Think Maldives, Bali, the Caribbean or the Amalfi Coast. Days are hot, evenings are breezy, and salt water gets into everything.
- 2–3 swimsuits per person so one is always dry
- Rash guard or UPF 50 shirt for long snorkel sessions
- Reef-safe sunscreen (many destinations legally require it)
- Beach cover-up, sarong or linen shirt for walking to lunch
- Wide-brim hat and polarised sunglasses
- Waterproof phone pouch and a dry-bag for boat days
- Water shoes for rocky beaches or coral
- Two dressier outfits for sunset dinners
- Aloe vera gel and cooling face mist
- Small quick-dry towel (hotels often don't allow beach towels on tours)
City honeymoon
Paris, Tokyo, New York, Rome. You'll walk 15,000+ steps a day and switch between museums, cafés and fine dining without going back to the hotel.
- Broken-in walking shoes (do not travel with brand-new ones)
- One smart outfit per couple for a signature restaurant night
- Layerable pieces — a cardigan or light jacket for cool interiors
- Compact umbrella and a packable rain shell
- Crossbody bag with a zip (pickpocket-resistant, hands free)
- Portable power bank — city days drain phones fast
- Museum-friendly small daypack (many bag-check queues are brutal)
- Reusable coffee cup for morning walks
- Travel-sized stain remover pen
- Downloaded offline maps and a translation app on both phones
Adventure honeymoon
Safari, hiking in Patagonia, diving in Indonesia, road-tripping Iceland. Weather shifts fast and you'll be far from a shop when you need one.
- Moisture-wicking base layers (avoid cotton)
- Insulated mid-layer and waterproof shell — even in summer
- Sturdy hiking boots plus lightweight camp shoes
- Merino wool socks (2–3 pairs — they dry overnight)
- Head-torch with spare batteries
- Reusable water bottle with built-in filter
- Compact binoculars for wildlife spotting
- Dry bag for electronics and passports
- High-SPF sunscreen and lip protection (altitude burns fast)
- Comprehensive first-aid: blister plasters, tape, electrolytes, tweezers
